Hello Democrats. January 2026 has left a tragic mark on us. The bigger tragedy is that I suspect there are many and more to come. The killers are moving faster than anyone or anything else. Killers of decency, justice, honor, compassion; people – killers of citizens of the United States of America. On video.
‘They’ can move so fast now because they have been preparing their plans for generations and their plans began with populating local and state government with conservatives: election after election after election. Their plans began with well-funded Young Republican clubs keeping the ideology alive and thriving. Their plans began with never, ever, ever taking their focus off the bedrock of power – control of government and all its assets.
Democrats, we must start making our own plans. They are way, way, way ahead of us. We must start making plans this week. There are direct connections between the murder of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal law enforcement and running for local and county government offices. You think that’s silly? Think it through a little more. Think and plan for the election in 2027, 2028, 2030, and 2032 and beyond. That’s the type of planning we need to lean into.
What can we do about all the horror now? Run for a local or county office.
Become active in your county democratic party. I have heard many times from people who come to one meeting and never come back that ‘It was boring”, It was intimidating”, “I didn’t feel welcome”. At the risk of sounding snippy – these are the business meetings of a political party that is trying to lead from the back of the race. There are probably 50 of those people at that meeting who attend regularly and are working with little assistance to make Democrats' voices heard. Remember that it is a singular entity – a COUNTY democratic party. They do want you there. Come back again and try again. Keep coming back . That is part of our plan.
We must signal our outrage about what we see happening in our country. We must also signal our commitment to our community of Democrats.
