Midyear School Supply Drive Helps Local Students Stay Focused

While school supply drives are most common at the start of the academic year, local educators say the need doesn’t stop once the first bell rings. By the second semester, many classroom essentials are running low, creating challenges for both teachers and students.

To help address that gap, the Hendricks Co Democrats collected much-needed items for students in Pittsboro and North Salem School Districts. Donations included pencils, dry erase markers, crayons, and headphones—everyday tools that play a critical role in student learning and classroom success.

Headphones, in particular, have become increasingly important in today’s classrooms, where students often rely on digital learning platforms. Access to headphones helps students concentrate, participate fully in lessons, and minimize distractions, especially in shared learning environments.

School administrators and teachers from both districts expressed appreciation for the donations, noting that replenishing supplies midyear helps ensure students can stay engaged without interruption and reduces the burden on families and educators alike.

Organizers of the drive emphasized that supporting students is a year-round responsibility and encouraged continued awareness of classroom needs beyond the traditional back-to-school season.

HCDP invites community members who share those values to join them in future service efforts. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply lending a hand, there are many ways to get involved and help continue this work.

To learn more about upcoming projects or how to participate, community members are encouraged to connect with the Hendricks County Democratic Party and be part of building a stronger, more caring community—together.
