Opinion: Opposites Do Attract

I am writing to call all concerned peoples together and not make the case to not get bogged down with distractions. Much has been made lately about differences within the Democratic Party. I like differences and I think harnessing our differences makes better.

Despite our distinct economic philosophies, capitalist Democrats and socialist Democrats share a fundamental commitment to a vibrant, equitable democracy. At our core, both groups believe that a just society must protect civil liberties, defend democratic institutions, and guarantee access to essential human needs.

While capitalist Democrats advocate for regulated free markets and socialist Democrats push for structural economic reform, both reject unchecked corporate power and corruption. We agree that unbridled market forces leave most of us behind, requiring strong public policy—from universal healthcare access and affordable higher education to livable wages and climate protection. Furthermore, both groups stand firmly united against right-wing authoritarianism and systemic inequality.

Ultimately, our disagreement lies in the economic mechanism, not the overarching moral vision. Capitalist and socialist Democrats remain key partners in the same broad coalition, bound by a shared conviction: effective government must serve the common good, protect individual rights, and build an inclusive, fair future.

I am a moderate capitalist Democrat and I look forward to working with all Democrats, Independents and Real Republicans as we work together to rebuild our democracy.
