April Monthly Meeting Recap

At the April 14th Hendricks County Democrats meeting, Drew Cox, Congressional District 4 candidate, presented his platform covering healthcare reform, agricultural and economic policy, youth voter engagement, and regulatory positions on Citizens United, AI in education, and reproductive rights, followed by a Q&A.

Local candidates Nancy Stinson, Karen O’Brien, Jered Petrey, Stan Albaugh, and Ted Baggesen each shared priorities ranging from affordable housing and township governance to transparency, infrastructure, and budget accountability.

Committee reports noted approved March minutes, strong fundraising activity, successful outreach and precinct efforts, expanded engagement through live streaming, and several upcoming events.

The first daily draw was announced, with daily draw tickets still available for purchase at in-person events like Dems and Deli, Dine to Donate at 2 Guys Pies and Bowling! A new winner will be drawn each day until the May Monthly Meeting on May 12th.

Fellow Democrats,

Our county party continues to grow in energy, talent, and purpose. As we look ahead to the coming year, we are committed to strengthening our transparency, accessibility, and community engagement. With that in mind, we want to share an important update about how we will conduct our monthly meetings moving forward.

Beginning next month, all regular monthly meetings will be livestreamed on YouTube and recorded using multiple camera angles , including views that may capture audience members. These recordings will be publicly available for members, supporters, and community partners who cannot attend in person.

Why We Are Making This Change

Our decision is rooted in a simple goal: grow the county party and expand our reach . Livestreaming and recording our meetings help us do that in several key ways:

- Accessibility for busy members
Many of our supporters juggle work, family, and community commitments. Livestreaming allows them to stay informed and engaged even when they cannot be physically present.

- Transparency that builds trust
Open access to our discussions and decisions demonstrates that we are a party committed to accountability and openness. This strengthens confidence among current members and encourages new people to get involved.

- A welcoming entry point for newcomers
People who are curious about the party often hesitate to attend their first meeting. Public recordings give them a low‑pressure way to learn who we are, what we do, and how they can participate.

- A stronger digital presence
Growing a modern political organization requires meeting people where they are—online. Regular video content helps us reach younger voters, new residents, and community members who may not yet be connected to our work.

- Better storytelling and outreach
Multi‑camera recording allows us to highlight speakers, presentations, and community voices in a more engaging way. These clips can be used to promote events, celebrate successes, and showcase the work our volunteers do every day.

What This Means for Meeting Attendees

Because cameras will capture the room from multiple angles, audience members may appear in the livestream or recording. We want everyone to feel comfortable and informed, so signage will be posted at meeting entrances, and we will make announcements at the start of each meeting.

If you prefer not to be on camera, seating options will be available outside the primary filming area.

A Step Toward a Stronger, More Connected Party

This change reflects our commitment to building a county party that is modern, accessible, and ready to grow. By opening our doors wider—both in person and online—we strengthen our ability to organize, educate, and inspire. Follow our YouTube page to access these recordings.

HCDP Democrats Step Up with Year-Round Community Service

The Hendricks County Democratic Party (HCDP) has spent the past several months putting Democratic values into action through a series of hands-on service projects designed to meet real needs in the community.

Beginning last summer, HCDP members organized monthly efforts focused on supporting local families, schools, and nonprofits. In July, volunteers collected paper necessities for the Mill Creek Christian Support Center, followed in August by a non-perishable food drive benefiting Sheltering Wings. September saw members preparing meals for families served by Family Promise and Almost Home, helping provide stability during difficult transitions.

In October, HCDP hosted a community blood drive, contributing to a critical and ongoing public health need. November’s focus shifted to civic engagement, with Democrats organizing and hosting a Civics Literacy Lab to help residents better understand how government works and how to participate effectively.

The holiday season brought direct support to local schools. In December, HCDP contributed $1,500 to Mill Creek schools to help reduce student lunch debt, easing financial pressure on families. In January, members continued their commitment to education by collecting school supplies for students in Pittsboro and North Salem.

“These projects reflect who we are,” said HCDP leaders. “Democrats believe in showing up for our neighbors, strengthening our community, and making sure no one is left behind.”

HCDP invites community members who share those values to join them in future service efforts. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply lending a hand, there are many ways to get involved and help continue this work.

Hello Democrats! 2026 is here. The year that will perhaps reveal whether we will weather this storm or become a casualty of high-minded democratic experiments. Let’s all try to keep in our mind, all year, that 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the USA experiment. I sure hope there are as many intelligent, educated, humble, dedicated, and brave people left in our country to dig us out of the mess we have made.

School supplies are pouring in. The amazon delivery folks are at my house quite often. Also, remember that at the January meeting we’ll be completing CAN 37’s for those who will be running for PC or state convention delegate.

Joe Mackey will be back to visit us for the monthly meeting next week on the 13th. There are 4 democratic candidates currently vying for the CD4 office to unseat Jim Baird. We heard from Drew Cox in November. The 2 others are John Whetstone and Thomas Hall Jr.

From the Front Lines of Democracy

Hello Democrats! So much going on around the county. High school and college sports making up front page, above-the-fold news. Professional sports making hearts break. I wanted to cry when Daniel Jones went down clutching his other leg – the one that isn’t ‘cracked’.

Mid-cycle redistricting in the state of IN - at the command of the POTUS - will maybe be over and done by Friday this week. The bill, and map, passed the House last Friday and went over to the Senate yesterday. The House passed the bill. The Senate is still a question. For Hendricks Co, two of our house reps voted yes to move forward with the gerrymander – Craig Haggard and Jeff Thompson. Two voted against the bill – Becky Cash and Greg Steuerwald. BTW, Steuerwald headed the re-districting in 2021. I have not seen a clear image of the proposed map, but I think Hendricks may stay in CD4 – don’t quote me on that. It did look like Hendricks got a little of the carve-up of Marion Co.

Our holiday party is today! We will have a little bit of a meeting, but not very much, and then begin the white elephant gift exchange. Don’t overthink the gift part. Don’t spend a lot of money. Usually, I go through my house and find something I can wrap up – like those things you bought on a TikTok flash sale and never opened, or the Amazon delivery that came to your house by mistake and couldn’t return, or an extra set of forks. You know – white elephant. Not typical. Fun. Silly. Disparaging. See you there!

Decisive Victory

Hello Frozen Democrats! I am used to snow from living in Indiana, of course. However, these last 10-15 winters have become very mild and meek, to the point that I don’t think I have put on a heavy winter coat at all for several of them. At the HCDP garage sale this past May, there was a lovely, heavy-duty, almost new, Lands End, turquoise winter coat that caught my eye. I looked at it until the last few hours of the sale and then bought it for $15. That coat kept me toasty while shoveling my drive Saturday afternoon, when winter decided to come back to Indiana in December.

Common sense and courage also made a comeback to Indiana last week. A MAJORITY of the Indiana Senate voted down the effort to redraw congressional voting districts 5 years before the census. It was an excellent outcome for our state. I do want to encourage all of us to not take it as a one and done effort. This was a vote by the senators, but it was work done by millions of Hoosiers. Hoosiers who took the time to let their representatives in the statehouse know how they feel about presumptive bills put forth to be enacted into law. For far too long, most of us have ignored what was going on in Indianapolis, and as a result, we find ourselves without adequate representation. Let’s use this great vote as an encouragement and example of what our responsibility is to our community. Stay informed, stay involved, stay active. The men and women who run our government need to hear from us – all the time.

📚 Mid-Year School Supply Drive — Helping Our Students Start Strong! ✏️

As our local schools head into the second semester, many classrooms are running low on essential supplies — and we can help! We’re collecting items for Pittsboro and North Salem Elementary Schools to support their students, teachers, and families.

The Cold Majors

Hello Democrats! Thanksgiving is the start of the ‘cold’ majors. That’s what nurses called Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years holidays. Everyone had to be on an annual rotation to get those big ones off duty– you never got more than one each year. The cafeteria would always serve traditional holiday foods, and usually we didn’t have to pay for those meals. We hated being away from our families, but working together on those emotional holidays gave us another type of family to cherish. I hope you all have good memories of your Thanksgiving day this year.

I know it is time to think fondly about turning inward, toward hibernation, but we must resist that temptation and keep our eyes open and our energy high. Time is marching on. Focus a part of your mind on the year that is fast approaching – it is going to be a doozy. Just keeping track of redistricting is a doozy. There was a statehouse rally yesterday and another scheduled for next Monday. We can’t stop fighting.

The monthly meeting next week will be short, but I will have a few things on a quick agenda to announce and we’ll approve Novembers’ minutes. The gift exchange will bring a lot of laughs and we’ll have goodies to eat! We will not broadcast over Zoom for this celebration.

Testimony Against Mid-Cycle Redistricting in Indiana

My name is Karen Whitney, and I am a concerned Hoosier, I am a badly retired college president. I live in Hendricks County and next year I will be running as a proud Indiana democrat to become the next State House Rep for District 28.

Today I do not stand here as a candidate. Today I stand before you today as a concerned citizen and tax payer to oppose the proposed mid-cycle redistricting. I believe our democracy is a precious thing, and it rests on a foundation of fairness. This insanely abrupt attempt to redraw the maps with no citizen input before the decade is out, shatters that foundation.

Lack of Citizen Input

A fair redistricting process requires robust citizen input. That is not happening. Today’s hearing has just scratched the surface for understanding the impact this bill will have on state offices responsible for administering this bill and the impact on every citizen. The maps drawn after the decennial census, flawed as they may have been, at least followed a public process. This mid-cycle effort has been rushed, opaque, and driven by political calculation, not community needs. Where were the public hearings in every district? Where was the transparent, timely, accessible platform for Hoosiers to submit their own maps and voice their concerns about their communities of interest? You cannot redraw the lines that define our representation without listening to the people you claim to represent. I ask this committee to hold public hearings in Hendricks county and Boone county and Montgomery county, before taking a vote.

Lack of Integrity and a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Mid-cycle redistricting on this crazy time schedule will be an administrative hot mess inherently lacking integrity. Redistricting is meant to happen once per decade, after the census, to ensure "one person, one vote." To reopen the maps now, purely for partisan advantage, is an abuse of power. It sends a message that in Indiana, politicians pick their voters, instead of the other way around. The Republican Governor and Republican Reps and Senators are wasting tax payer dollars by being here today. This is a waste on so many levels.

I do not care about maps in other states. They do them and we do us. Hoosiers don’t cheat.

I ask that you reject this effort. Stand for transparency, stand for Hoosier integrity, and stand for the principle that our elections should be determined by the will of the voters, not by the surgical strokes of a Washington DC political mapmaker.

Listen to voters. Hold public hearings first. This process and this plan gets an F minus. Vote to Move to table this bill until you hear from voters directly.

Opinion: Showing up for Kids Means Showing Up for the Community

If you are a parent, you know the importance of building a solid foundation. From celebrating milestones to attending sporting events and teaching those important life lessons, we do these small, often repetitive efforts every day. They help shape who our children become.

What we often overlook is that the foundation we build at home is dependent on the community around us. That community is shaped not just by educators, businesses, and housing developments, but by the people elected to serve on school boards, county commissions, town councils, and even as Precinct Chairs.

As a parent, our first instinct is to do everything we can to protect our children. However, that includes more than holding their hand across the street or choosing the right car seat. It’s about ensuring schools are well-funded, resources are accessible, and our community feels welcoming so everyone can thrive. Local democracy is where your voice can be heard the loudest, your vote can make a significant impact, and where simply showing up can make a difference.

We envision a community that is rooted in fairness, compassion, and opportunity. This isn’t something that has to remain a grandiose idea - the choices we make at the county and town level can make that a reality.

Our community will soon face decisions that could have lasting repercussions for decades to come. How can we support families struggling with the cost of childcare? How do we attract and retain teachers? How do we ensure our community is safe, clean, and welcoming? None of these questions can be answered without showing up.

So what does that look like? Vote in your local election. Attend a school board meeting. Discuss with your neighbors, friends, and other parents what is important to them. Those small acts of care will build on the foundation we make at home.

As parents, we learn patience. We know how to be hopeful, even when things seem heavy. We imagine a future we may not see for ourselves. Local democracy asks of us the same.

Let’s show up for our children, so they live in a community we’re all proud of. Our children are watching. Let’s start making the choices today that shape their tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone who attended the chili fundraising dinner or otherwise donated to our fundraiser to relieve the semester's school lunch debt at Mill Creek Schools. One school in the school system had an Angel Donor covering lunch debt, but the other three schools each generated about $500 per semester in lunch debt. We set out to pay off at least one school's debt, by raising $500, but blew past that at the chili dinner, raising more than $800. Our second goal--paying off two schools, or $1,000 was in reach, but thanks to the generosity of all of you just before the deadline we hit our stretch goal of $1,500. Virtually all of Mill Creek's school debt this semester will be paid off.

Thank you to the outreach committee, PC's, and everyone who generously gave their time and resources to get this done.

Volunteers Needed for Our 2026 Meeting Meals

A few times each year, we serve a simple meal at our monthly meetings — and it has become one of our most appreciated traditions. Not only is it a small fundraiser that helps us support local candidates, it also brings people together. Sharing a meal gives everyone a chance to meet, talk, and connect in a relaxed, welcoming setting. And for those coming straight from work, it’s a huge help to have dinner ready when they arrive.

We’re now looking for volunteers to help with our 2026 meeting meals . Whether you’d like to cook, serve, set up, or help with clean-up, every bit of support makes a big difference.

ChaIr Update: Nov 25th 2025

Happy Thanksgiving! Followed quickly by Black Friday Shopping! There is a nation-wide boycott starting on Thanksgiving Day – the “We Ain’t Buying It” campaign, which will end on Cyber Monday. Specific retailers: Amazon, Home Depot, and Target are being targeted due to their collaboration with the Trump regime. So, let’s all plan ahead and spend our dollars close to home at local small businesses. This is one of those ‘small’ things that, taken together, can build success toward a Democratic goal.

Speaking of success. The Democrats Work project for November was an in-person presentation of a ‘Civics Literacy Lab’ by MAD Voters of Indiana. I think we had 25 or 26 people there. Many of us are more interested in IN state politics than we have ever been, and this was a really good explanation of what goes on ‘up there in Indianapolis’ at the statehouse. On November 18, the Indiana General Assembly had their ceremonial opening of the legislative session. The Senate maintains it’s position that there are not enough votes to push re-districting forward. Could it be that Indiana will be the state to refuse an order from DJT? It would make me happy.

This is a short work week, and family is the focus. Let’s reflect on the privilege we enjoy, how best to share it and feel gratitude for it.

Thanks to your generosity, we’ve already raised $1,100 toward our goal of $1,500 to pay off all the lunch debt at three Mill Creek schools. To make it simple, we set three mini-goals of $500 per school — and we’re so close to finishing all three!

Hi Democrats! Lots of happenings - as usual. Is politics ever dull and quiet? I feel like it has been, but I can’t clearly recall when.

Last Tuesday we had Blythe Potter speak at the meeting and recognized the veterans in the crowd for Veterans Day – of which Blythe was one. There were a LOT of people there – so if you didn’t attend – you are missing out for sure. ALL the chili was gone and we were happy to go a long way to our goal to help pay down Mill Creek schools’ lunch debt. Speaking of which – please go ahead and contribute to this effort – we will be collecting until the end of November. There isn’t always a lot of good news in Indiana for Democrats, but last week we got a little taste of victory. The special session of the legislature called for by Gov. Braun to ‘consider’ redistricting our legislative maps was to happen on November 3. This date was pushed back to December 1 and then was called off completely. What the what!?!?!?!? The GOP does not have the votes to succeed in this endeavor to cheat their way to winning next year. It felt good, I have to say. And it should – the voters in our state stepped up and made their opinion on this action known – loud and clear. If they hadn’t, none of the above would have happened. And yet…..we must be realistic amid our joy. Mr. Trump and his army of liars and cheats will not accept this temporary defeat but will increase the pressure on those legislators who are holding out. They feel this is a be-all, end-all for them and they will not hold back on their tactics to cajole and even threaten. So, we’re not done. But we know we can do it. We’ll just keep on doing the right thing for the right reasons. That job is never done.

Speaking of Democrat victory. How many of you are leaning towards becoming a candidate in your town or township for next year? Now, that would be a victory – having a democrat to contest every race in our county. No more sailing through without any effort on the part of the GOP party. We make them work for it. I like the idea!

Chair Update: Nov 11th 2025

Hello HC Dems! What a week we have had. As I predicted last week, the world did not stop spinning when Zohran Mamdani was elected Mayor of NYC. Democrats had a standout election day on the 4th, and it felt great to see rays of light amongst the gloom that lives and breathes in our country right now. We must take those wins as the fuel to feed our determination going into 2026.

Also this past week, the Executive Committee traveled to Zionsville for a Congressional District 4 meeting. Four of the CD4 candidates were invited to come and speak. Joe Mackey was the only one to do so. Joe is running hard to secure this seat for us. He brought up a very important point – campaign staffers are in short supply and needed badly if we are going to put our candidates in front of voters. We are all going to have to work hard next year. If any of you can do more, let us know and we’ll find a campaign for you. Especially those Millennials and Gen Zers’ who can make a message travel further and better than anyone else!

Happy Veterans Day to all our service members. Serving in the United States armed forces is life changing for soldiers. War or no war, stateside or international, these men and women don’t just give an oath to the constitution – they live the oath to the constitution. And all the rest of us are the recipients of their dedication and valor. We truly are the land of the free because of the brave. Thank you all for your service.

In short, the local Democrat is a moderate, community-minded Hoosier focused on practical solutions, economic stability, and the high quality of life that defines our county. They are dedicated to keeping Hendricks County a fantastic place to live and work.

Chili Dinner Fundraiser to Relieve Student Lunch Debt

Times have been tight for many families for a while, and during the shutdown the Republicans in Congress are doing everything they can to keep families from receiving critical SNAP food support. Public schools play a critical role in ensuring children get at least one square meal a day, but for those less fortunate this can mean racking up student lunch debt. We are Democrats: we believe in working together to help other people, and at our monthly meeting on November 11th we will be having a chili dinner to raise funds to relieve student lunch debt at Mill Creek Schools.

Mill Creek Schools—two elementaries, a middle school, and a high school—average about $500 per semester in lunch debt per school. Fortunately, one elementary school has an angel donor fund to help with lunch debt, but the other three schools could use our help.

Come early to our next monthly meeting and enjoy homemade chili, cornbread, soda, and all the fixing. We are suggesting a $10 minimum donation per person, but every dollar helps. Our goal is to be well on our way to completely wiping out at least one school’s debt. We will also be encouraging donations through social media posts and an article in the Hendricks County Republican.

Hello Democrats! Good Tuesday morning. Today is election day around the country and in Avon. Partisan races will be scrutinized to death to predict midterm tendencies for next year. Will the world stop spinning if Zohran Mamdani is elected as NYC Mayor? At this point, such an outcome would be very far down on my list of things-that-should-stop-the-world-spinning events.

Scuttlebutt has it that the voters are turning out for the ASC tax referendum question in Washington Township. This could be a bad time for this vote to take place. Asking people to choose between possible property tax increases and maintaining proven excellence in public education might be tricky. Tax is a loaded word and is used to manipulate people every which way all the time.

SNAP benefits have been suspended for the least among us. Democrats, this is the time to physically do for others in our community. Buy extra food and donate it to a food pantry. Pizza King in Plainfield, and Rock Star Pizza in Brownsburg are giving away free pizza to SNAP recipients one day a week - go there and give them money to help offset the cost of this generous gesture.

And as always – consider running for a candidate position next year. How about we all just run as a group for everything on the ballot and see what happens? There are a lot of responsibilities that go along with being a citizen of a country that is ruled by a democracy. Democracy demands participation and vigilance to the principles of maintaining freedom. While we are in the midst of experiencing the decades-long neglect of participation and vigilance, and all that that entails, we cannot forget those who need support, comfort, and relief from everyday abuse.

October is Domestic Violence Month in our nation. It was originally observed in 1987 and officially designated in 1989. Purple is the color used to symbolize the courage it takes to endure domestic violence and show support for survivors. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, over 10 million adults experience it annually. This past September, the HCDP collected non-perishable food and donated it to the Sheltering Wings DM shelter as a show of our support for domestic violence victims. Donors enjoyed festive Halloween decorations, tasty treats, and plenty of camaraderie while giving the ultimate gift — the gift of life.

Saturday, October 18th, the residents of Hendricks County showed up in a way that left our neighbors with a sense of community we were missing. The No Kings protest in Plainfield drew a crowd of more than 750 people who were passionate, hopeful, and ready to make their voices heard. I was floored by the number of youth advocates feeling hopeful, connected, and energized all asking me: What is next?

The answer starts with voter turnout. In the 2024 general election, only 65% of registered Hendricks County voters cast a ballot. If we want real change, we must do better. Republicans would not be redistricting if they were not afraid of what happens when we all show up to the polls. It is because they know our voices are powerful.

I also want to challenge the idea that Hendricks County is “solid red.” Many would be surprised to know we could probably count the protest challengers on two hands. And for every boo or thumbs-down by cars going by, there were five times the honks, waves, and cheers of support. We are not the silent minority… We were the quiet majority who believe in progress, fairness, and democracy for all. This weekend changed that. Now it’s time to get LOUD. The Hendricks County Young Democrats are growing fast, and we’re ready to turn protest energy into participation. Let’s make sure that next election, Hendricks County doesn’t just show up, we lead. October 2025 is almost gone! What the heck? There are a few things to loop you all in to.

Early voting started yesterday for the Washington Township Special Election question on continuance or not of the 2018 school referendum. Early voting is taking place ONLY at Avon United Methodist Church from 8a-4p through Friday. Saturday hours are 8a-3p. Election Day is 11/4 at 5 vote centers: Avon United Methodist Church, Bartlett Chapel, Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Plainfield Christian Church, and Radiant Bible Church. Voting hours on election day are 6a-6p. This election is only applicable to residents of Washington Township. Please vote if you are eligible to do so.

At the last monthly meeting, I misspoke concerning when delegates to the State Convention had to be declared. I said it was before 11/15 (the convention is 6/6/26), and though it is good to plan early, delegates are elected in the May Midterm elections, and DO NOT have to be declared prior to 11/15. We do have 55 delegate slots. We will ask for the $35 fee assessed for each delegate. It has been a few conventions since we had a full delegate slate and would love for that to happen for 2026.

Yesterday, and again today, the news is that Gov. Mike Braun will hold a redistricting special session as early as 11/3. There is talk that he still does not have the Senate votes he needs, but it seems pressure is mounting on the hold-outs. ( It could be they lock them all in a room and don’t let them out until they do as they’re told scenario!) I know many of you have been calling, writing, emailing our representatives repeatedly to let them know you are against this power grab. Don’t stop – we can pressure representatives too! It has been a minute since I looked at the proposed map several weeks ago. On it, Hendricks County was moved out of Congressional District 4 and into Congressional District 6. However, we don’t know what will be approved. If this angers you, remember we will still work to elect democrats and get candidates on the ballot to challenge the GOP. We will still build relationships with like-minded individuals and will continue to work to get out the vote and build our party.

People without integrity will cheat – people with integrity continue to do the right thing for the right reasons. That’s us.

Hello Democrats! What a day we had on Saturday! The universe agreed with our purposes so we had perfect weather, lots of like-minded activists present, and the other side, though present, was tiny and silent. It felt so wonderful to be fulfilling the most basic of our citizen rights, the one to peacefully assemble.

There is a lot of activity going on with the HCDP. Early voting poll worker training is the 22nd and we’ll be solving all national problems at the Dems and Deli conversation at McAlister’s in Plainfield and State Convention Delegate Training on 10/24. Once you decide to go along with the county party, you will never be bored or lonely. You all have ideas of how to ‘fix’ what ails the government – so I invite you to join us and tell us those ideas. Don’t forget to sign up to donate blood at the fairgrounds on 10/25.

Be on the lookout in the next week or so for another survey. This one is asking your thoughts on how the party is doing so far since reorganization in March. There have been a ton of changes made, and I very much want to hear your assessment of how it is all going. If I have not said it before, let me say now, this is not ‘my’ party. The HCDP stands in for all the Democrats in the county, however, if ‘I’ only ever hear suggestions, ideas, etc., from the same 30 or 40 people, it can feel like a one-person, one-group organization. For example, the survey we sent out for the HH Dinner was returned by 17 people. 134 attended. It is a short questionnaire – 3 questions only. I ask that you take a little time to thoughtfully respond. Think about the structure, the meetings, the committees, the executive committee, the messaging, the communications, the activities – all of it. And it will be good if you could not just critique, but add suggestions you think would help make a better organization.

The temps may be a little warm, but the color palette is right, leaves are falling, so it must be fall! My favorite season of the year. I hope those of you who attended the HH Dinner had a good evening. I know the volunteers who worked so hard to make it beautiful, tasty, and entertaining are happy it is in their rear view. If you didn't get there, I hope you'll make plans to join us next year as we prepare to cross the finish line of the midterm elections.

If you did attend, be on the lookout for a survey coming to your inbox. It would be so good for you to complete it and send it back. As we have come to expect, (because we are sooo good!!) It was a successful fundraiser.

I think Hendricks County is getting more recognition as a meaningful county in the democrat universe, and that is a good feeling to me because I really believe we will do better if we all work together and support each other. We are not alone.

Hi everyone! In case you didn't know, it is the middle of August already. The state fair is going strong, and the 4-H'ers are all so happy they are finished for another year. I hope you all made it out to the Hendricks County Fair and visited our booth. The Indiana Trivia game we had on display was a big hit with the kids.

Our Democrat Works projects with the Contest Every Race grant program are moving along. Last week, I got a lot of help from the Outreach Committee for planning and carrying out the rest of the year's projects.

BE SURE TO BRING NON-PERISHABLE FOOD TO THE MEETING TONIGHT!!!! We will be donating to Sheltering Wings later this month. June was a BUSY month - and still a few more events to go! If any one of you is as tired as I am, use that as a reason to recruit more volunteers - more people equal less individual exhaustion! But here's the other thing - how wonderful it is to have great friends to staff so many worthwhile events for the Dem party in our county? When we celebrate our Party together, energy stays high and helps take us out of the hourly assaults coming at us from our federal government.

When I began my journey of activism with the HCDP, I worked the polls as a judge or clerk for many years. Since then, I have learned A LOT. I want to share some of what I've learned.

Our first 2025 parade was on June 7th in Amo. The HCDP owns the float we use in parades. It has wooden benches with a wooden barrier on the sides, so people don't fall out - sitting on a steel trailer. It is currently the most valuable concrete asset the HCDP owns. It is maintained by a self-appointed group (Eric S, Stan A, Chuck D) - you know, checking tires and hitches, painting, putting on sign fasteners and flag holders, and such. It is not required to be licensed as a vehicle, as it is only used for parade purposes. It is used in four parades each year - Amo, Brownsburg, Pittsboro, and Plainfield. It is stored outdoors on a farm in Brownsburg, with rental of $50.00/month. Those who pull the float are charged with a big responsibility - besides safety, they are pulling the biggest asset we have! They use their own vehicle to pull the float - they go pick it up and get it to the set-up location, and then return it and cover it with the tarp to await the next trip. There is room for ~16 adults to sit on the float, 2-3 may sit with the driver in the truck, and others walk the route.

Walkers can hand out candy, water, info, dog treats, or just greet people. Candy is a big thing for parades, and a big expense in the budget. It would be wonderful to have 40+ democrats walk in a parade.

Since the garage sale is complete - which brought in $2,721.65!!, that leaves the HH Dinner as the last big group fundraiser for the year. Tonight (6/13), a few of us are going to the IN Dems HH Dinner at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Our county party HH Dinner is not as fancy as the one for the state party, but, like the state party, it is typically a big fundraiser. And this year, it has a high bar to become the biggest since the DDD Raffle brought in a little over $6,000. The date this year is September 26th - so save that date!! We will have 2 speakers this year- Senator Evan Bayh and Destiny Wells. We will celebrate our successes and each other and eat good food. I urge you to attend, and I hope you attend - it will be fun!

I want to thank all the HCDP folks who have enthusiastically jumped on the bandwagon that is rolling toward electing democrats in 2026! I feel like we are still feeling our way forward, and I am so energized about all the work being done. It all may seem a little wobbly right now, but as we move forward, we'll get more solid and be ready to take on 2026 like a cyclone!

Congressional District 4 is also in a building phase, and the State Central Committee is brand new too. Thank goodness this is a non-election year, so that we have the time and opportunity to get strong. All of the HCDP committees are moving forward, some more than others, but forward is the direction we want to go. Keep it up, Dems!!
